Wasn't PowerDVD free or free-ish? I might be wrong.

I also think you can play DVDs with VLC though I'm not sure if you get the whole interface like you'd get on a DVD player box

We have a NEW and GLORIOUSER-ER-ER PSU Tier List Now. (dammit @LukeSavenije stop coming up with new ones)

You can check out the old one that gave joy to so many across the land here

The file you downloaded should be vlc-2.2.8-win32.exe and it is 29.4Mb in size.  It is a self-extracting archive.  Just open the file either by a single click in Chrome or a double-click in the file manager.  It will then self-extract and install.

I had problems with VLC also. I use 5KPlayer for DVD's. Easy to install, use, and it's free.  :D

https://www.5kplayer.com/

For Blu-ray I use Leawo. Also easy to install, use, and it's free.  :D

Best Excuses:

#1(simple) "Well, I never liked that stupid thing anyway!"

#2(complex) "Obviously there was a flaw in the material, probably due to the inadvertent introduction of contaminants during the manufacturing process."
