dual cameras?

why do some cell phones have dual rear mounted cameras? is one for low light operation? or is it to capture a sharper image that otherwise possible?

some are optimised for low light, some for optical clarity, some are zoom some are for focus, some are for 3D photos... all kinds of reasons.

in the case of the iphone, its designed that way to create a software-biased DOF sensation. (blur the background)

uhh, the G5 Plus only has one rear camera...

oops. that's what happens when i look at to many things at the same time. the special edition has dual rear cameras.  which is the one i was looking at.

The dual cameras have differing properties such as aperture so that you can take two different looking pics at the same time.  This allows the phone to combine the images with software to create depth of field effects like bokeh.  Dual cameras are in many ways "gimmicky" and not at all a necessity, but its still a nice feature to have.  To be honest though, I don't find the bokeh effects of my Note 8 to be all that superior to the shots my S7E could take.

It's not a special edition, it's just an updated version. You're looking at the G5s Plus.
