Hello!

i'm trying to flash a newer bios to my MSI Z68A-GD65 (G3), MS-7681 V 4.0

according to MSI's homepage i should only need to download an EXE file and execute it on a thumb drive.

I've tried that and the computer only restarts and goes back in to windows. I've tried to take the .p90 file and making an bootable FreeDOS drive and force flash the bios without luck.

without the bios upgrade i can't use my GTX770 graphics card in the computer. i get an like B2 error message on post.

thank's for any clues

download the actual bios file, not an exe and then go into bios and flash it.

Oh wow, that's bad... I know the board is old now, but only having an .exe to update BIOS is just asking for trouble IMO. Especially when you click their "how to m-flash" and the files in the video are proper Bios files not .exe - that's just ONE of the reasons I will never buy another MSI board is their woeful use of "documentation". I found that out on a z97 gaming 5 board I still have, when I first got it I decided to follow their instructions to see what it did instead of just using my usual method, so anyway that was a disaster, and also their live update prog when it worked at all, would download the bios versions from the wrong locale, gave me no end of problems trying to fix that. Managed it when I did it my way instead, and never used their live update again. The board is still going strong, it's actually being used in my mining rig now as it has 7 pci slots, and wasn't being used anyway, so saved myself having to buy new cpu/mobo/ram/case etc, all I had to buy this time was a new PSU as the other one ganked itself, and the GPUs.

BTW, in case you didn't have it, the live update prog is HERE

If you want to use it that is.

got this board for free. would never buy one eather. i have a Gigabyte in my main rig and love it. so easy bios update flash. tho it's allways easier when products is supported ;)

i tried their live update and it didn't prompt any bios updates. it seems to be pretty stable with the update i used. the computer is running ubuntu atm to see if it's stable enought.

think i'm going to sell it anyway and getting a smaller more portable.

thanks for your responses :)
