HIgh RAM Usage

Jasun

The other day, I bought a new prebuilt system and the current issue is that when I have no programs open, my RAM usage is already at 50%. I have 4 gigs of RAM but on my older system, it also had 4 gigs but I do not believe that it used as much when idling. When I opened task manager, I saw that the top "ram hogs" when idling were, Antimalware Service Executable, Microsoft WIndows Search Indexer, and Service Host: Superfetch. All of these services are using ~75-100 MBs of RAM. It just seems like it's using too much. If that's not the issue, please tell me, I just want to fix my high ram usage. Thanks!

Specs:

i5-2400

4 GB DDR3 RAM

GTX 750

2 HDDs (500GB, 7200 RPM)

Just let me know if you guys need anything else.

I misread titles/posts way too often--correct me if I don't.

If you're using Windows 10 then yes 4GB RAM will result in 50% usage. This is totally normal.

4GB RAM isn't enough these days for most tasks. You should upgrade to 8GB or 16GB.

Judge a product on its own merits AND the company that made it.

Okay, I wait for other replies until marking the answer correct. I try to upgrade to 8 gigs in the next few months.

Pretty normal for your machine. See above. Sorry...

i5 6600k and GTX 1070 but I play 1600-900. 1440p BABY!

Still, don't put too much faith in my buying decisions. xD

Windows 10's official RAM minimum is now 2GBs. Your situation is normal. Add more RAM if you have an issue.
