Hello comunity!

I'm looking for some help about an issue I'm having with my usb 3.0 ports.

Recently I got an Orico HDD dock station and 2 Toshiba HDDs for making buckups, and the first time i tried it I got only 35 Mb/s* in both write and read speeds. At first glance it seemed to be the cable because I changed it and got over 200Mb/s, what i was expecting, so I thought the problem was solved.

But after using my computer for some days (not just the new HDDs an dock) I felt the speed transfers were not consistent, sometimes the speeds felt slow and sometimes it felt faster.

I usually use on my usb 3.0 ports the following:

- sd card reader with 2 sandisk extreme pro cards (90 mb/s) on front panel dual usb 3 port.

- external Hdd 2,5" (90 mb/s) on front panel dual usb 3 port.

- dock station with toshiba HDDs (200mb/s) on rear usb 3 port on Mobo.

- monitor on rear usb 3 port on Mobo.

Those transfer speeds were got from benchmarks with crystaldisk.

So I decided to do some benchmarks once i felt the speed was somehow slow, and the results I got are the same for all the different devices on any usb 3 port I have on my computer: 35Mb/s again* like if a bottleneck was happening...

This problem doesn't always happen, but it happens quite often.

In addition I can say that the case front panel (dual usb 3 ports) has not been working properly for a lot of time now, I always use one of the ports because with the other one I experience lower speeds and some devices are not properly recognized in windows. Could this be the problem source? Maybe the MOBO,power supply, drivers or software?

More info:

windows 10

case: aerocool pgs vs3

PSU: tacens radix vi 750

MOBO: asrock z77 pro4

i7 3770 + cooler master evo 212

SSD samsung 240 (400 Mb/s)

2x WD caviar black 1TB on raid 0 (215 Mb/s)

gtx 660

16 Gb ram

monitor: BenQ BL2711U 27"

Thanks a lot!!

Ok, lets make this thread usefull...

I've just "solved" (I hope) the issue.

The problem was that analyzing my usb ports with the tool "USBtreeview", some times the ports I use (blue ones) were recognized as ports of "usb 3.0 extensible host controller", and other times as "intel(R) 7 Series/c216 chipset familiy....2.0" ports. It seemed to be random.

I only use devices on the usb 3 ports, so I ended up disabling in the BIOS the usb 2's and problem solved.
