Gmail Causing Factory Reset

I was locked out of my gmail account for work which was linked to my phone (not my primary email). My boss reset the email but somehow it caused a factory reset of my LG g5 phone. I've lost all of my contacts and photos. I know android uses google and gmail for most things but I don't understand why it would reset everything for no apparent reason. If anyone can shed some light on this, please help.

Your boss wiped your phone. Exact reason I don't use Exchange email on my phone.

Any way I can recover the data I lost? I've read some things about data recovery after a factory reset but haven't had  any luck.
