Should i buy a r9 280x  nowadays? I love the performance of it snd its really cheap used and it can compete to a 1050ti and those are really expensive since the mining hype. And i do know that it has high watt usage

if you have the PSU, and can get it cheap, go ahread. its not a bad card, and some of the PCBs and coolers are pretty freaking sweet like the TriX

The power draw is not something ridiculous -- if you have a 500W ~ 550W, you already have all the power you need with extra to spare.

I was pulling a maximum of ~370W from the wall socket when I had one HD 7970 installed with an overclocked AMD Phenom II X6 CPU.

(later model HD 7970's, and R9-280X uses the same GPU chip...same card on the inside, different name)

 

The Dual-X, more so the Vapor-X, versions of the 7970/280X are really something.

I had a Dual-X HD 7970, and a Vapor-X HD 7970 a few years back.

 

Like @Bananasplit_00, if you can get a decent R9-280X for a reasonably good price, AND in good condition, then go ahead.

Just don't expect to run the newest AAA games on Ultra settings or something.

Depends on the card and price... mine was a power sucking pig of card. Although rated at 250W the cooler was inadequate for the OC (XFX DD Black Edition or something like that) and it would easily take another 100w on top of that when thermal runaway kicks in. This was easily fixed with a bios hack to remove the overvoltage they applied and bought back to stock voltages.

 

I recall it was a bit faster than my 960 at the time. Still if buying today, I might check out what a 960 4GB or 970 is going for these days as I think I'd rather have either of those just to ease on the power side.
