Greetings fellow LinusTechTips forum members,

With the Holiday season fast approaching and with Black Friday now behind us my beastly Gaming and Hackintosh build is one step closer!

So far my specs are as follows:

Intel Core i7-4770K

ASUS Maximus VI Hero

Corsair Vengeance 16GB 1600MHz (10-10-10-27)

Intel 330 Series 180GB SSD (Won courtesy of Lamarr Wilson [http://www.youtube.com/LamarrWilson])

Samsung 840 Series 120GB SSD

Seagate 2TB HDD

Corsair Vengeance C70

Corsair CX750M 750W Power Supply

The only thing I have left to get is a Graphics Card.

The power of this card will be dependent on Holiday Earnings.

I'd like to get a 780 but, let's be real here.

I'll probably get the cheapest 770 at my local Computer Hardware Store on Boxing Day.

I'd also like to get Liquid Cooling and a Shield, but those are extra upgrades for later.

Anyway, my reason for posting this is I would like to get a general consensus.

What do you guys think of my build so far?

What do you think I could have done differently?

Should I get a 770 or save for a 780?

Should I get a 760?

Let me know!

Thanks.

TheKurtster

You will have to get a Gigabyte board for a hackintosh. http://www.tonymacx86.com/home.php This website will have everything you will need.

You don't need a Gigabyte 8-Series Motherboard.

I have a tutorial from Tonymac for using my board: http://www.tonymacx86.com/mavericks-desktop-guides/116466-guide-asus-maximus-vi-hero-build.html

There are a few hoops to jump through but I'll manage.

I was going to get a Gigabyte board but I liked the ROG Boards.

Yeah, then it should be fine then. Also I would say wait and get a GTX 780.

I was going to get a Gigabyte board but I liked the ROG Boards.

I think those ROG boards works great. In fact I am using a ASUS Rampage IV Gene and I have no problems till now.

For the GPU, the main question is, for what will you use it?

For 1080p a 770 is way enough! If you wanna play 1440p you will need to consider buying a 780, so you are future proofed.

Whats also important, i would absolutely buy a NVIDIA card for hackintosh. It s quite a mess with AMD ones.

Also I don't see any Wifi Card in your build. It s actually really hard to get a good Wifi-Bluetooth card for hackintosh.

The rest looks pretty solid.

I'm probably going for a 770 if I can afford it.

If I can't afford one I'll be getting a 760.

I only for now plan to play in 1080p.

I'll be playing games like FC3, Bioshock Infinite, Saints Row 4, Garry's Mod and GTA IV.

If I want to play in 1440p I'll get a second GPU even though OSX doesn't like dual GPU's.

I'll probably get the WiFi card that Tonymac recommends unless I can find an AC one that works good.

Would a 760 be enough for 1080p gaming on Ultra?

On a good number or games, yes.

That's good.

I only ask because I'm going out Boxing Day regardless and buying whichever Nvidia GPU I can afford.

Whatever you do for your GPU - always double check that it'll be compatible. I think unless you have Mavericks you'll be out of the loop when it comes to the higher end AMD's.

I have no plans for an AMD GPU.

I am only considering Kepler 2.0
