PSU Good enough?

Thinking of buying a GTX 1080 for my PC, got a Cooler Master Silent Pro Gold 550W

Specs:
i7 4770
8GB Corsair ram
2 ssd's and a harddrive
Asus 970

Will 550W be enough for a 1080? And is a 1080 good with the other parts of my PC? (Gonna get new ram soon aswell)

550w is fine for a 1080 and the other parts. Don't know if the PSU itself is any good though @AluminiumTech

Just quickly adding up some soft numbers in my head, yeah it should work.  I would double check it in a PC builder, but in reference a lot of SFF computers only use a 400 watt PSU for a GTX 1080.  I have a 400 watt prebuilt that I upgraded to a 1080 and it works like a charm.  More power is always better especially for overclocking and heat issues, but at a certain point going to north of 700+ you see diminishing gains and your just throwing away money

 

A 550 PSU is what I would consider safe to run a GTX 1080 Ti at

Maybe try hold out on the GPU upgrade until Volta/Ampere/ whatever the hell it’s being called? The 970 is no slouch
