new i7 7800x overheating 80-86C

Octik

Just bought new computer around a week ago and noticed while playing certain cpu intensive games like GTA V and battlefield 1 that the cpu starts to heat up to around 85c (no overclocking stock speeds) case has plenty of ventilation i think its just because i went with air cooling i'm not sure my cooler is a coolermaster master air maker 8 if someone could help that would be great..

specs:

i7 7800x  (cooler is coolermaster master air maker 8)

16gb ddr4 2400mhz

asus tuf x299 mark 2

evga gtx 1070 ftw

Might be a problem with thermal compound or how tight the cooler is. Air cooling should be able to keep up with a 7800X, I don't see many reason for it not to.

if you need to tame the beast you need help form the water gods. also that cpu on air sounds about right (litte high). TJmax is 100C or somting like that

TJmax is 100C

its not dangerously high if its under 100c

however since you're using air you have to properly set up your ventilation so the in and out takes are smooth

Did you try reapplying the thermal paste?

I meant that the cpu can be used safely under 100C or TJ maxx as the call it

Under = safe

Higher = you're house is on fire

This might just be an issue of the auto core voltage being unnecessarily high, what is your CPU core voltage set to?

i9-10900K, Asus ROG STRIX Z590-E Gaming WiFi, Asus TUF RTX3080, 32GB G.Skill 3200MHz CL14

Samsung 970 EVO Plus 1TB, EVGA Supernova 850W G3, Asus Xonar DGX

Fractal Design Define C TG, Noctua NH-U14S, Asus PG279Q 27" IPS 1440p 165Hz
