Dad wants a new rig,

What it needs to do:
- Stream live sports
- Browse buy and sell websites
- Watch youtube
- Watch movies

-occasional design work, (cinema4d, maya + adobe suit)

Budget for the cpu + mobo roughly around the 300 mark, and also advice on a power supply unit.
I can get my hands on cheap ram and a cheap 250 ssd and I'll probably buy some cheap case online,

Ideally an intel (as i already have a couple amd computers already), and also something a bit future proof .

Thanks

If that's all he does, get a g4560 + h110 board. Should cost around 100 usd bundled.

Ryzen 5 1600 @ 3.9 Ghz  | Gigabyte AB350M Gaming 3 |  PaliT GTX 1050Ti  |  8gb Kingston HyperX Fury @ 2933 Mhz  |  Corsair CX550m  |  1 TB WD Blue HDD

Inside some old case I found lying around.

a good 400-550w unit is more than enough. i'd suggest getting a low-end nvidia gpu for CUDA acceleration.
