New Coffee Lake Build

Aerdian

Hello!

I am currently using an AMD FX-8320 and an AMD RX480 4GB with 16GB RAM. My CPU is starting to really show its age and it really isn't working out as well anymore as it previously did.

Budget: Preferably under $2,000, but more like $2,000-$2,500 - If any of you know some good parts for lower prices, please let me know :)

Uses: Mainly content creation with some gaming (video editing, graphic design, 3D modeling, game development, etc.)

Monitor(s): I currently use a Dell 1080p monitor and a Wacom Cintiq, but with a new computer, I plan on investing in an ultrawide. If any of you have suggestions, feel free to let me know!

Why Am I Upgrading?: My aging CPU is not working out as well for me anymore and I'm in need of a new CPU. Considering I would have to replace my CPU, motherboard, and RAM to upgrade, I decided that it would probably be much more worth it in the long run just to build a new computer.

Some other things I'm considering: My current PC is very loud and I would really want my new one to be far quieter, so any recommendations to case fans, coolers, etc would be greatly appreciated :)

My current build plan: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/qP8hsJ

Any recommendations and help finding my new build would be greatly appreciated :) I'm fine with either Intel or AMD, so if you have great ideas for a good Ryzen build, I would appreciate that feedback as well :) I was wondering, since this is not an immediate need, if I should just wait for Volta and/or Ice Lake (even though Coffee Lake recently came out) or if I would be good just building now.

Thanks!

A note that if you're gonna edit 4K video you'll need 32GB.

This PSU is better in performance, newer and lower price https://pcpartpicker.com/product/64cMnQ/seasonic-focus-plus-gold-750w-80-gold-certified-fully-modular-atx-power-supply-ssr-750fx

That 1080 Ti is overpriced and its cooler is bad, grab something different -

A hybrid card if you're gonna mount it in front (so you don't get horrible GPU temps) https://pcpartpicker.com/product/8ws8TW/corsair-geforce-gtx-1080-ti-11gb-hydro-video-card-cb-9060011-ww

And an open card if you're mounting traditionally https://pcpartpicker.com/product/gwJkcf/evga-geforce-gtx-1080-ti-11gb-sc-black-edition-video-card-11g-p4-6393-kr

We have a NEW and GLORIOUSER-ER-ER PSU Tier List Now. (dammit @LukeSavenije stop coming up with new ones)

You can check out the old one that gave joy to so many across the land here

Computer having a hard time powering on? Troubleshoot it with this guide. (Currently looking for suggestions to update it into the context of <current year> and make it its own thread)

Thanks for the help! When I'm editing now, I use up all 16GB really easily, so I planned on getting 32, but couldn't find any reasonably priced sets.... Thanks for the suggestions :)

Yeah it really sucks how much RAM costs these days, so 16 will have to do. You can probably do 24

How much do you wanna pay for the ultrawide?

That video is a bit dated, 4 years almost

Here's a source that cites the 32GB number I said

https://www.videomaker.com/article/f6/17135-editing-in-4k-minimum-system-requirements

"Offline" editing refers to doing your editing on a downsampled copy of the footage you're working on, whereas online means working on the original footage.

Yeah. I'll probably do 24GB :) I don't want to pay too much for the ultrawide, but I do want it to be 1440p and color correct.

I would give you a Dell U3415W. https://pcpartpicker.com/product/yhM323/dell-monitor-u3415w

It showed up on tomshardware's reviews as well
