Fake iPhone X

Go to solution Solved by Sauron,

It may be stolen - perhaps they changed the serial number to avoid having it traced, but for some reason they used a 7 plus serial.

So I was just looking on Craigslist and I saw this.
The IMEI Number says that it is an iPhone X. However, the Serial Number says it is an iPhone 7 Plus.

So they've somehow put the internals of an iPhone 7 Plus inside of an iPhone X? Or what's going on here?

Fonts look slightly off. And i don't think apple states full capacities with 2 decimal places. Most likely a clone. I have attached a file which shows the about page of an iPhone running ios 9. As you can see it only has 1 decimal place. iOS 11 is updated to show the capacity advertised or stated on the box (eg. 32GB) instead of the actual full capacity. Like 29.6 GB. And therefore, the capacity stated on the about page should be 256GB. Not 256.00GB. I have seen actual clones that display it like that. So please, do not fall for it. As for the imei or serial number, it could be taken from a stolen/broken iPhone 7 and slapped on every clone made.

Could be a Chinese clone, could be stolen with a modified serial number. With Craigslist, you never quite can tell.

If you found it because you're looking for a phone, I'd suggest dropping that pursuit on Craigslist or any of the online flea market apps like Letgo or OfferUp. 50% of the phones on there are still under contract and will be locked by the carrier the second the previous owner stops paying, 30% are stolen, 15% are broken and a whopping 5% are legitimate, working phones from people who just don't want or need them anymore. Check sites like Swappa, Amazon or Newegg, where you have strong product controls and buyer protection. Even eBay is a crapshoot with used phones.

I enjoy buying junk and sinking more money than it's worth into it to make it less junk.
