Hey guys,

So after like 2 months use out of the SAMSUNG 960 Pro NVMe, using the 'SAMSUNG magician' software to bench the SSD, I am seeing average sequential speeds of 1.9 gigabyte reads and 1.8 gigabyte writes (IOPS, or 4K speeds are as advertised). I have Windows optimisation set to a frequency of once per week. I understand that I most likely will not see the advertised sequential speeds, but an average of like half of 3.2 gigabyte reads and 2.1 gigabyte writes (the advertised speeds) is rediculous.

SSDs do get slower as they fill up, but, I own the 512GB model and have 90.2GB stored on the thing. Every model of the 960 pro features 4 blocks, or chips that, when divided by 512, equals to 128GB per block. I have no confirmation on whether each block holds the same capacity as another, but it will not make any sense for them not to.

Now it is very rare that I will need access to a single file above 2GB or more, but I would like to see sequential speeds at least above 2GBs. Any suggestions?

You could try to update the firmware on the drive.

Which motherboard are you using?

PC Specs - AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D MSI B550M Mortar - 32GB Corsair Vengeance RGB DDR4-3600 @ CL16 - ASRock RX7800XT 660p 1TBGB & Crucial P5 1TB Fractal Define Mini C CM V750v2 - Windows 11 Pro

M'kay. Any idea on the temperature of the drive? Samsung NVMe drives are notorious for their high heat output and throttling if there's no airflow around it.

There are two 140mm fans at front. Haven't noticed it above 40c.

Ok. Just checking. Then all I can think of is a software issue. Chipset drivers, Windows being Windows etc.

Yeah, next time I boot, I'll make sure that all the drivers are of the latest from their respected providers.

Might also be the software on your device. Boot into safe mode or restrict your start up programs and try checking read and write speeds again.

Have done that. Ever since I got it, boot speeds have been at a mere 10 seconds.
