Status: UNRESOLVED

Computer Type: Alienware R2 Laptop

GPU: Nvidia Geforce GTX 970M

CPU: Intel Core i7-4710HQ

BIOS: A04

Operating System & Version: Windows 10 Version 1709 for x64-based Systems (upgraded)

GPU Drivers: 388.71 clean installed

Description of Problem: Nvidia Control Panel will not open. When I disable the default Intel graphics and try to Launch the Nvidia Control Panel it say that this display is not connected to an Nvidia GPU.

Troubleshooting: I've tried uninstalling display adapter GTX 970M (uninstalled through device manager) then clean installing it with latest update. I've tried going into services and restarting NVIDIA Display Container LS. I tried disabling the default graphics. Still can't open control panel. (Looking at my monitor properties it uses the Intel graphics, then with those disabled it uses Microsoft standard graphics... not sure if this has something to do with it)

I really appreciate any help. I am trying to get a new monitor that has G-sync and would like to be able to use G-sync through the Nvidia Control Panel. Thanks in advance. (If I can't get this fixed I think I might just bring it to a Best Buy and have Geek Squad help me. Opinions on this?)

Hi Spike.

i have also had this problem and couldnt find a solution online so i will tell you what i went through and hope it helps.

first off i have a alienware 13 with an 860m. last week for no reason my nvidia panel wouldnt open. also no games would load, or kodi! i tried all the obv things like drivers ect and even a fresh install of windows.

out of pure luck the thing that seems to of cured it was this...

i turned off the gtx860m and opened payday2 as it was the only way i could get onto it. i then plugged a hdmi in to put it onto my tv, then went back into the device panel on windows and re activated the gtx860 and it worked, and has done since.

so i dont no if you use the hdmi on your laptop but in short, turn off card, plug in hdmi, re activate card and thats it.

it worked for me out of luck , hope this helps

happened to me before in this two scenarios:

1) multiple monitors connected. Just unplug all but one and it will open.

2) Notebook with integrated and dedicated GPUs. Solved doing this: Open any application (game or whatever) using right click "use Nvidia high performance gpu" or somethig like that. Once the app is open in background try opening the panel again. Should pop this time.
