Dongle bottleneck?

TheGermanEngie

So for the past couple of months, my Realtek RTL8188EU 802.11n USB Adapter has been able to surf da interwebs pretty smoothly. With steam (using the Singapore server) I would get download speeds from 2.5 - 4.0mb/s. I was a pretty happy duckling. Then, the problems started when I started using a VPN to download torrents. I could only download torrents through Vuze when connected to the VPN, and at a painstakingly slow download rate peaking 100-200Kb/s. Also, as of typing this sentence, GTA just finished downloading after A WHOLE DAY, around 600-780kb/s. My internet at home is supposedly a pretty decent Verizon router, but as of recently I'm starting to think it was a huge waste of money.

What should I do? Replace the USB dongle with an 802.11a/c? Powerline ethernet??

Try using ethernet without powerlining it if you can. Also if that doesn't work, try using a PCIe WLAN adapter.
