No. eGPU enclosures need Thunderbolt 3 to work at any playable speed.

Laptop GPUs are a lot harder to upgrade than desktop graphics cards. What (if any) expansion slots are there on the motherboard?

With a PCI expansion slot included

Can you post pictures of both sides of the board?

Why did you quote yourself? @Crunchy Dragon already explained thunderbolt 3 is pretty much a requirement.

@thegreengamers mentioned that it may be possible to get a GPU for the board via PCIe as well, so it's worth a try for that. Not entirely sure where one could find such GPUs, but I wouldn't imagine it's impossible.

OP said PCI though, an interface that decidedly will not have the bandwidth to run any decent graphics card

There's a chance there could be a PCIe slot. Albeit not a high one...

@Crunchy Dragon mentioned that you could possibly use a pcie slot on the motherboard. However, these slots are usually only mini-pcie, and only electrically equivalent to an x1 desktop pcie slot. Furthermore, a lot of laptops use this one slot for the wireless card, which makes putting a dedicated GPU in there costly and overall not worth it.

777 (posts) you hit jackpot! Better buy a lotto ticket quick.

Also, I'd stray away from trying to upgrade the old laptop as it is. Just save up for an overall better machine, install linux on that one afterwards and use it for internet browsing and other light work.
