GPU for OptiPlex 790 SFF

MrKosh

Hey I have a OptiPlex 790 SFF and I was wondering what GPU would be compatible with it.

Specs:

i3 2100 @ 3.10 GHz

8.0 GB DDR3

Right now, I mostly play CSGO and at Lowest Settings on maps like de_mirage and de_cache I run at around 30-50 FPS

Oh, so a 1050 ti can run on this thing.

I would've thought that it wouldn't be even compatible with a 1050 ti. Wouldn't it bottleneck?

Why wouldn't it be? It's a PCIe GPU, and your computer has a PCIe slot.

Yeah, I know It'd be compatible. Just thought that It'd bottleneck because of how old the system is and definitely how old the CPU is.

Grab a low profile 750 Ti off of eBay. Cheaper than a 1050 Ti and plenty for what you need. I've got the MSI LP 750 Ti and it works like a dream.

I will say beware the PSU. I bought an i5-2400 990 SFF for $30 off a guy because he was convinced it was dead. I pulled out the LP 750 Ti he had in there (I know, I stole that PC) and it fired right up.

Aerocool DS are the best fans you've never tried.

Yeah, actually not  THAT bad of an idea. I will look into it.

If I decide not to update the GPU, can I just buy the 1050ti and not experience bottlenecking?

And also, does it support CPU upgrades to something like a i5 2500 or a i7 2600? And the mobo probably won't overclock will it?

It looks like the best PSU that your system could have is a 260 watt unit.  The 1050ti has no external power needed, everything is supplied though the PCI slot, but it still might draw too much for your PSU to handle.  Be careful.

I never get the whole bottleneck thingy.. as it depends on the game or whatever your doing. Anyway; should be fine though some SFF dell optiplexs can only output 35W via the PCIE slot.

Just use speccy and google your motherboard, it'll tell you everything you need to know.

MY system has a 240 watt PSU. How much does a i5 2500 and a gtx 1050ti Low Profile take up IF I make those upgrades?

Assuming it has the Q65 Express chipset, then in theory https://ark.intel.com/products/52811/Intel-BD82Q65-PCH any of those are compatible, assuming dell haven't locked any of them out for whatever reason.

Something like 150-200W or so; could be less or more.

It would depend on what you do with it, but I'd assume the power supply would be alright for now.

Knowing Dell, some CPU upgrades may not be easy or possible in my experience.
