Overclock ram to overclock cpu??

Hey guys,

Is it really necessary to overclock your ram to overclock your processor?

i have a ryzen 3 1200 cpu and i dont plan to overclock it beyond 3.8ghz.

i have seen a lot of oc guides and most of them overclock ram as well.

i have an 8gb ddr4 2400 mhz kingston memory which does not have fancy heat spreader to keep it cool, so i was thinking to avoid overclocking the memory.

Is it possible to avoid ram oc or is it necessary to do it if i am overclocking my ryzen?

Ryzen benefits more from higher memory frequency then pure clock speed so overclocking your memory will help you. It doesn´t really matter having a heat spreader or not on RAM.

CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 5950X PBO GPU: Asus Strix RTX 3090 OC Mobo: Gigabyte X570 Aorus Master RAM: 32GB G.Skill Trident Z RGB 3600Mhz CL17

CPU Cooler: Corsair H150i Capillex Storage: Samsung 980 Pro and 970 Evo 1TB Samsung 860 EVO 1TB Crucial MX300 525GB WD Black 2TB PSU: Corsair HX1000 Case: Corsair 500D SE RGB 6x LL120

i also heard ryzen series have compatibility issues with ram. is it safe considering that ?

should not matter that much as long as you have decent air flow in your case.

Go for it while it's stable. While RAM speeds aren't directly linked to core speed, they are linked to inter-module speed inside the CPU, a small quirk of Zen.

Airflow from a CPU cooler is enough to cool RAM, besides, memory chips, unlike most ICs, like running hot.

Depends do you have a super small case? Because in a big case with some drive cages in front a 120 mm does not enough.

What case do you have, and if you worried about compatibility, just update the motherboard BIOS

That case makes me sad only such small air in take 1 120 mm airflow fan that then meets with drive cages giving it even less efficient operating conditions. And it says Professional Gaming Cabinet.... for building a grill

It seems you can add another 120mm fan, I would take the 2 that came with the case, put 1 in the front as intake and 1 in the back as intake and this fan (in the link below) as exhaust on the side panel, at max power
