So I am trying to figure out the best combo to build where i can upgrade and carry this build forward over the next 5-6 years.  So I currently have a 1070 gtx video card, because of cost, i know in about 2 years i will buy a 2nd and run SLI to keep up on video games and that should push it to that 6 year mark before i have to make a large video card jump.  I currently run 4 SSD hard drives, and would like to add an m.2 as boot drive, but from what i have read the m.2 robs from my pcie lanes, and in a few articles i have read the same about running SSD.  So running SLI for video cards with a CPU that has only 16 pcie lanes will be a problem i think.  I could be wrong, but I want to make sure moving forward that I get the best set up I can without breaking the bank. Do I get a threadripper 1900x cpu? Or will the intel 8700k coffie lake do the job?  I know I should pick a chipset from the most current release to push my build to lasting the 6 years, but which?  This build will be air cooled to start, and will be upgraded to water cooling for the over clocking next year.  Any help would be appreciated.

No, you wont.

Here are reasons why:

#1 A GTX1080ti is already as fast as 1070's in SLI, by that time it will be easier to sell your 1070 and buy a GPU as fast as or faster then 1070's in SLI while paying less money.

#2 If you are planning to watercool there wont be any GPU Waterblocks available anymore for 1070's.

#3 SLI sucks in many ways compared to a more powerfull single card setup, only do it when you can live with the downsides of SLI and have the cash to make it happen from the get go with cards that reach a much higher performance then on any single GPU available by that time. 2x 1080ti = worth, 2x 1070 = waste of money.
