It depends what route you were going with 'water cooling', were you planning a custom loop or were you planning to buy an AIO?

Don't go for an AIO smaller than 280mm, clean the thermal paste off with alcohol, preferably isopropyl alcohol

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

Well first what CPU do you have?

I'd actually stick with air cooling for that CPU. Water cooling an i5 really isn't worth the money, I'd only consider water cooling if it was an i7 'K', i7 'X' or i9 'X'

An air cooler would still be capable of cooling it.

all you really need is one of these...

Alright. No type of watercooling is necessary when overclocking unless for high end cpus like an i7 i9 Ryzen 7 or threadripper. Even if you do have an i7 you can get a good overclock on air. The only real reason for watercooling is bragging rights unless you have a very inefficient cpu. But if you want bragging rights that go for custom water cooling over an aio unless you’re new to pc building.

Build:

Intel Core I7 6700k (clocked to 4.6ghz)

Patriot Viper 3000mhz ddr4

ASUS maximus 8 hero (I hate this mobo)

Evga gtx 1080 superclocked

250GB Samsung 850 evo

2tb WD Black 7200rpm

Ek watercooling kit a240g with 360 expansion pack

Primochill Vue Red fluid

Corsair Graphite 600t (white)

You thought "Gee, Donald Trump sure has a great build!"

Agreed. Watercooling looks very cool and all but it is in no way cost effective. If you are trying to save money definitely go air cooling. If you want your build to look cool, then go with a custom loop. @CombatComedy By AIO, they mean closed loop off-the-shelf options like the Corsair H100i, which are fine, but they don't look as cool, and a good air cooler like some of noctua's will have the same thermal effect anyway.
