Asus Sound Card Difference

I am shopping for a sound card to replace my onboard sound. While looking for a sound card I noticed that the Asus Xonar DX 7.1 has the same audio chipset as the Asus Xonar Essence STX. What is the difference between the two? Does the Xonar DX have an onboard Amp? Would it be cheaper to get the Xonar DX and an external Amp? I'm hoping to get the Beyerdynamic DT 770 250 Ohm version. Thanks for any help in my search for a better audio experience.

They both have amps (anything that drives a headphone must have an amp) but they claim the STX has a bigger amp for more difficult headphones.   What motherboard are you using? You may well find the the DAC and amp on your motherboard is just as good if not better.

Wants 250ohm Beyers, so O2/E10 time.
