I need help

Currently I having 30mbps internet speed with dual band router setup on 1st floor  my desktop is on 2nd floor with internal network card

I only have 3to 4 bar if signal out of 5 bar which only gives me 7-13 mbps speed

I install a dual band repeater(net gear ex3700)  few feet away from my desktop

For first 2 weeks my signal was stable but after 3rd week I no longer getting stable speed

When I connected to my repeater the speed can went down until 2mbps (highest 29mbps)

I have no idea is it my repeater degraded or not

I was planning to but asus extender that having 9 dbi Athena but it only single band. Will single band extender will slow down your speed when it extend the wifi signal?

Is there possible to setup 2nd repeater in the between the router and 1st repeater (near my desktop 2nd floor)

I also bought a new router with 4 Athena but they are 5dbi so the signal is totally the same

Wanted to avoid lay down a network cable until 2nd floor to setup new access point

If I install external network adapter with 9dbi Athena connect using USB to pc

Will it improve the connection?

Note I rarely shut down my desktop so I afraid if I use external network adapter it will overheated for using non stop

Wireless extenders/repeaters are basically all garbage, so you should avoid that at all costs.

You could try using a powerline adapter to get an ethernet wire to your computer/access point upstairs (you would plug something into an electrical outlet by the router and then plug a block into an electrical outlet upstairs), or you could try getting a better PCIE wireless adapter. Reapters are just generally trash and only create more problems.

Personally, I would have to disagree. It depends on your hardware support, and configuration of each repeater. If you don't have a grasp of Wireless Networks then I would stay away from Repeaters as they can cause problems if you don't know where and how to set them up.

Now, in regards to your questions that you posted.

Yes, any extender will slow down the overall speed. Out of my years of experience every repeater you setup will degrade the overall network throughput and your Internet Throughput.

Yes, it is possible to setup a 2nd repeater, but I do not think this will help you here. You will need to configure the network correctly to be sure that every device (regardless of the repeater it's connected to) knows how to reach the public internet. Also, a second repeater will greatly increase your latency.

Personally, I love External Network Adapters. I have a ton of them floating around as they are great for troubleshooting just about anything. Now, in terms of leaving one running 24/7. I would stay away from this. If you want to run WiFi straight to your PC, then I would look at an internal PCI-E WiFi Adapter.

Overall, since you are running a repeater and you have two floors. I would be sure that you are using the 2.4GHz network and not a 5GHz. A 5GHz network won't have great range, unless you are prepared to install directional high-gain antenna's.

If all else fails, then the power line adapters would be the next best thing to do.

Any recommendations on internal nifi adapter that could help boost the receiving signal?

About the single band extender, will it slowdown 50% of my speed?

Currently my dual band repeater only slow down 1mbps so I not sure if single band will slow down or not

Is there any configuration need to set on main router when communicate with repeater?

My current repeater do not have any advance setting for me to configure

I only can set which signal to extended and which SSID should I use

Okay, I should have done this first.

what band are you using? I know you say dial band, but what SSID Band are you connecting to? 2.4GHz or 5GHz?

2.4 will travel much better at longer distances, but has terrible congestion. This is why you should do a wireless site survey.

5GHz is terrible at long distances with obstructions, but can produce a much higher bandwidth.

I using 2.4ghz as 5 ghz range to short so it cant even reach my repeater

I using channel 6 right now as I the only one using it after survey using wifi analyze

I will try power line adapter then setup 2nd access point on 2nd floor as a temporary solution but I still need to test it out before It suitable for me or not

Hopefully the speed is good and stable

Will setup using  ethernet cable in future
