Mesh network/mutliple access points?

Hey guys,

My house is having a number of connection issues with the wifi. There is bad signal in some rooms, no signal/dropping connections in others, and extremely slow speed despite good connection for some rooms.

I have fibre optic internet, which comes in at the entrance of my house, which goes through some device (not sure what it is), then into a modem (im guessing), then into a wireless router.

I have tried improving the wireless connectivity by purchasing a bigger/more expensive router, which unfortunately still does not provide full coverage. I have also then tried wifi extenders, however this resulted in very slow connections, and also i had issues switching to the extender.

I can connect wired ethernet cables from my router (at the entrance of the house) into these ports which will allow wired connections at other points in the house. I have done this amd tried installing other wireless routers at other points of the house, however this seemed to have issues (conflicting signals and slow speeds). So i tried installing the routers with same ssid and network key, but i had to constantly manually disconnect and reconnect to the wifi as i moved around the house to get the best signal.

I am considering trying out a mesh network, but was unsure if this will solve my problems, and am wondering if any of you could shed some light on the issue. I am qlso confused qw to whether or not i can/should use multiple wired connections with the mesh system, or if there is a better solution available given the set up in my house.

Setup of a mesh network can be a task by itself. You will need to having routing down perfectly or else you will just create a giant loop.

Have you done a WiFi Survey in your area? You should check out neighboring WiFi Signals and make sure that you are using open channels as this will help performance. I would go back to the approach of using Multiple Access Points as this will be a quick and easy way to setup the network. The big thing is that you need to make sure that each Access point is setup for DIFFERENT channels. If they are on the same channel then they will just compete for the same air-time.
