I want to setup my old 6s Plus, but I don't want to activate it, however when I turn it on (after a factory reset), it always wants to go through the activation process. How can I avoid that process?

why don't you want to activate it?

I factory reset it because I replaced it. I just want to set it up so I could use it as an iPod (or more specifically, I just want to run some tests on it).

well you could just put a sim card in it, activate it and take the sim out. that's it.

Then I'd have to reactivate my new phone, which I'd prefer to avoid.

really? i've only ever owned one iphone, a 3gs, so i didn't know that. i assumed it was like android phones, which don't need "activation"...

maybe buy a cheap prepaid sim card and activate with that? if that's possible.. is your phone unlocked?

It's unlocked, and I'm not exactly sure how it works, I've never tried to reactivate an old phone. All I know is that my old phone is trying to "activate", and I don't want to let it because I don't want it to mess with my current phone. I just want to be able to use my old phone completely disconnected from any network.

I'm pretty sure you use iTunes to activate it. Plug it in and setup as a new phone with the sim removed.

Since you're phone is unlocked, it should work.

well my old 3gs would just need a sim card, and it would work. i don't know what it would do to your new phone though..

I'll try that in a bit. I'll just have to dig up a small paper clip or something to pop out the sim card.
