Ok, so my mom's trying to get my dad a network switch for Christmas, but I honestly know nothing about them.

His budget is low. He's looking to spend about $30 - $40. He'd like 8 ports. He's basically just looking to have everything connected via ethernet.

This one's on sale, and has twice the packet buffer. Is that a huge plus?

What are the difference between these three? Why is one almost $20 more than the others? When I look at it they all look the same.

It's Canadian as well.

Thanks all!

I personally just default to Netgear's GS1xx lineup of switches, but if I find the GS3xx series cheaper, I'll go for it. They're the same, but the GS3xx series is considered "SOHO" for some reason even though I can't tell the difference. I have one GS108 and two GS308 switches and they've worked fine for the past few years.

The first and second links I would consider equals. They're both the entry level SOHO line for netgear and D-Link.

The last two appear to have some kind of QoS feature but personally unless you have to deal with a lot of bandwidth use, it's not worth it. I would even say if you had that kind of need of QoS, you might look into a managed switch instead.

First two are good enough for the job in my opinion.
