Hey

I have a mining rig with 1x1000w Gold rated EVGA power supply, this one: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B017ROGC12/ref=pe_1909131_77697001_tnp_email_TE_AMZLdp_1

Ive been running 1xR9 390x and 1x970, both underclocked (not messed with voltage, just power limit) so they would produce less heat.

I bought another R9 390 and popped it in the rig today and it just will not power up. PSU / Motherboard shuts itself off within a second of the on button being pressed. Are these cards requesting too much wattage on a cold boot? I thought at idle the TDP would be much lower then under load?

Even at load i should only be using 911 watts as calculated here in the attached file from this website: https://outervision.com/power-supply-calculator

Any advice hugely apprecated. Also i bought these cards used on Ebay so have not contributed to the lack of cheap gaming cards on Amazon :)

Cheers!

Paul

Have you tried using the new card alone to make sure it's functioning properly?  Also, since your PSU came with 6 VGA (PCI-E) cables, try running one cable to each port on the R9 cards.  More cables means more power can get through to the card, and with that 275W TDP on each one, they need all they can get.
