Weird media/function key issue?

So I've installed Ubuntu 17.10 on to a 32GB partition on my new Dell Laptop. At first, the media keys (volume up, down, mute) were working, they now stopped working. I have no idea as to why Ubuntu 17.10 hates me! Every other media keys work except the volume ones. The volume icon also no longer displays where they should. Can anyone help!

 

EDIT: pulseaudio isn't running yet audio can still play.
