Trying to decide on a cheaper cpu for just recording audio for podcasts and audio for youtube. I have a micro atx case, psu, ddr3 ram, and hdd's lying around I can use. I'm just wanting a basic, cost effect cpu and motherboard for simply recording my mic for audio only. No video encoding as I can do that on my main rig. The reason I'm doing this is for it to be setup in a little space reserved for this and don't want my main pc to have to move back and forth. I'll most likely order off newegg for these parts. Suggestions? Will an older i3 do or am3+ cpu work? Thanks guys!

Edit: Budget will be around $100-150 if possible.

audiowork isn't too demanding for desktops

any Intel core i desktop CPU from the past few years or Ryzen 3 should be able to handle it.

Peripherals: Qisan Magicforce (80%) w/ Gateron Blues.  Razer Naga Chroma.  Lenovo 24" 1440p IPS.  PS4 Controller.

Oh but you're wrong. When it comes to real-time audio it's very reliant on CPU timing and consistency.
You almost want to have a dedicated system that is running a low-overhead OS, otherwise latency is too high.

What would you recommend for a CPU and OS for something like this?

What sort of interface will you be using? Usually they give you system requirements.
