Hello,

So I want to upgrade my PC. Trying to do it part by part per paycheck... im not good at saving money and buying it all at once haha

Today I ordered Evga 1080 SC and im thinking about i5 8600k or maybe a AMD CPU next week(budget is $300)...than MOBO and RAM after that. I'm not trying to overclock it right away but I would like to have that option in the future

so my question is whats a good MOBO and RAM combo that would work maybe with my COOLER and PSU(FOR NOW) .. not trying to cheap out or go crazy, something that would last me for few years so my budget is $400 for both...

Any recommendations would be great for cpu motherboard and ram combo!!!

My specs (before the 1080)

CPU: Xeon X5675 OC 4.2Ghz LINK
COOLER: Cooler Master MasterLiquid Lite 120 (push–pull configuration) LINK
MB: ASUS P6T SE LINK
GPU: EVGA GeForce GTX 670 FTW+ 4GB LINK
RAM: Kingston HyperX FURY 16GB Kit (2x8GB) 1866MHz DDR3 CL10 LINK
PSU: CORSAIR CX650M LINK
HDD: SAMSUNG 850 EVO SSD 500GB LINK
CASE: Rosewill NAUTILUS LINK

This is what I was thinking..

This is a pretty good combo, it includes i5 8400, mobo and 8 GB ram

https://pcpartpicker.com/list/3Jk6Gf

all under $400

Used to be everywhere in LTT forums, had a break which lasted apparently 1 year LOL.

Gonna get up againnnn.

Wake me up if I sleep again like Oppy.

If you live near a microcenter, 8600k is $250 along with getting $30 off the mobo.

Thanks man!! I dont live near one but ill be in the area over the weekend that has one

So i think i Picked out the mobo for 8600k but i dont know which RAM to get .. what ya guys think which ram is better? the site recommends DDR4-2400  but when i look up builds with that MOBO and CPU they all use 3000+

MOBO ASUS PRIME Z370-A LGA

RAM

G.Skill Ripjaws V 16GB 2 x 8GB DDR4-3200

OR

Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB 2 x 8GB DDR4-3000

Actually, the 8600k is $230 now so that's even better haha. Also, since your build is not Ryzen based, you don't necessarily need 3000+ memory as long as it is in dual channel. Of the two you listed there, I would get the G.skill just because it has higher memory clock, but they both aren't the greatest prices. Maybe look over at reddit.com/r/buildapcsales to grab couple better-priced RAM when a deal comes out.
