Fair point, although AM4 provides a more solid upgrade path. If he wanted to, he could drop to 8Gb memory and get a 1060 for just about the same price: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/vzbLvV

im planning on building a computer for my cousin that has to be under 750$. im having trouble though because of the crazy prices of ram at the moment and i need help figuring out a part list for a pc that is going to be used for gaming. any help is appreciated

what ive got for a part list so far

CPU:

Go for an i5-7500. It's just 10 cents more hahaha

Motherboard:

There's no point getting a Z-series motherboard when you have a locked CPU.

Unless the Z-board is cheaper than their H and/or B counterparts.

Try for an H270 or a B250. Or if you really wanna go with 6th gen, H110, H170, and B150

Z-boards are made for overclocking an unlocked CPU.

PSU:

This PSU is crap. Go look for another one. Refer to this thread.

Usually we want something from Tier 1-3. Tier 4 is still acceptable.

Karamo

Spoiler

CPU: AMD Ryzen™ 5 3600 | CPU Cooler: Wraith Stealth | GPU: Gigabgyte AORUS GeForce RTX 2070 Super | Motherboard: MSI B450M Mortar Max | RAM: G.Skill FlareX 2x8GB 3200MHz CL16 | SSD: ADATA XPG SX6000 Pro M.2 256GB | HDD: 1TB 2.5" Western Digital Blue (WD10SPZX) | Case: NZXT H510 | OS: Windows 10 Pro 64-bit |

This would be a little worse due to weaker gpu and poorer processor... 1060 would probably be much better deal including maybe springing for a newer cpu / mobo

First PC Build

CPU: i5 4690k  (4.7Ghz 1.36v)                                        MOBO: MSI z97 gaming 5

GPU: MSI GTX 1070 gaming x                  Case: NZXT s340 elite Black/Red

Storage: 1tb seagate SSHD, 240gb PNY ssd                    PSU: Corsair RM750X

Cooling:H100i V2 / Bequiet Fans

16GB Hyper X Fury Memory

Benched on CPUZ (Single-thread=2140) (Multi-Thread=8316)

Fire Strike 1.1=13660

Time Spy=5519

Cinebench R15 (CPU= 509cb) (OpenGL=118.28 FPS)

Unigine (Superposition 4k optimized=5581) (Heaven Extreme=120.6 FPS Score:3038) (Valley Extreme HD= 92.7 FPS Score:3879)

Honestly give your local craigslist a shot you can easily get a solid 6700k/6600k and 1060-1080 build for that much used in most areas you don't get to build it yourself though :/

R7 2700x (4.3ghz), Gtx Titan Xp Galactic Empire (Watercooled), 2x8 Gskill Trident 3200mhz, Asus Crosshair VII Hero Wifi, Corsair 900D, SAMSUNG 960 PRO M.2 256gb, Samsung 850 evo 500gb, 4x3tb 7200rpm Segate Barracudas in Raid 10 EKWB Custom Loop, Corsair AX1500i Power supply

Yeah but with the stupid prices of low/mid range gpus and ddr4 buying new is so hard to recommend :/

Love STL mostly because we have a microcenter for those impulse buys xD

definitely i've been there and it seems like a nice place i live out in ballwin so getting their is kind of a stretch but, in the case of mid range gpu pricing i had to pay around 500 for my 1070 gaming x a month after my birthday (july) and the pricing was still absurd but i didn't want to wait.
