Disabling cores??

So lately(5 months) most of my applications and games that I play use 1 or 2 cores and I thought that maybe I could disable core 3 and 4 to OC the 1 and 2 core more in order to be able to get better performance.

Can I do that or is it not possible?

I usually disable 4 of my cores when I play older games, and overclock the other 2 to 5.4GHz. If you are ok with a loss of overall performance, older applications will run much more smoothly.

Tthe only reason why you'd disable cores is for better temps. You can then push more voltage to gain higher clocks, and electromigration becomes an issue.

 

In theory, you'd get better single thread performance, but that would only make sense with games that only use a few cores.
