Hello I'm building my first PC and I was wondering if these parts were ok: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/Ck94KZ

I already have the harddrive. Its from my old computer but its on there for clarity. I do not plan on overclocking it (and I wouldn't know how anyway).

Are there way better parts for around the same price? Is one of these parts horrible? Is the thermal paste ok?

Thanks in advance for any advice you can give me!

If you don't plan on OC then don't get a K-chip. Use the money for something else...

Edit: I read the list wrong twice in a row. :l

omg my god ram pricing has gone trought the ROOF! last year i got my 2x8gb 3200mhz cas 16 trident Z for the price of one of your 8gb 2400 sticks.

and yeah, your build is good. Tho you should consider getting a rx480 or rx580 with 8gb, or at the very least a gtx1060 6gb. check for used rx480's if setting up your game is too expensive. Heck even a gtx780 would work.

as people say, don't get the k chip nor a z motherboard, save on those and get a non-k i7 and a cheap board instead for somewhere around the same pricing.

I didn't get into PCs until after it rose but I can certainly agree

Also that cooler wouldn't cool an ice cube.

And everyone is gonna give you grief for not getting the 1060 6GB.xD

What's the problem with the 212?

i got one, it works great with my i5 6600k clocked at 4.5 never above 70 celsius. no complains about it.

I'm curious as to why Wonkey's against it.

a cryorig m9 would be cheaper if you don't count rebates and performs the same while being much smaller, the 212 is way too overrated imo.

I, too can vouch for the 212.  I used it in my last two builds (Q6600 and 3570k) and it kept my CPU thermals in check through some really hot summers, and unless something else happens it's going to be the cooler of choice for my next build.  It's good, cheap, and cools just about as well as some of the cheaper AIO water coolers.

Current stuff:

Laptop:

Dell Inspiron 15 Gaming

Intel Core i5 7300HQ @ 2.50ghz

GeForce GTX 1050

32gb Crucial DDR4 2133

500gb Samsung 850 EVO

5TB Seagate Barracuda 5400RPM Laptop drive

Desktop:

Intel Core i7 6700k @ 4.20ghz

2x GeForce GTX 1080 Founders Edition

4x8gb GSkill Ripjaws V DDR4 2133

Gigabyte Z170X Gaming G1

480gb Kingston HyperX Predator

2TB Seagate Barracuda 7200RPM HDD

Corsair Strafe RGB w/MX Blue switches

Mad Catz R.A.T. 7

Lots of completely necessary "Go Faster" lights

Server:

Dell PowerEdge T30

4x Western Digital Blue 1TB 7200RPM Drives

1x4gb Hynix DDR4 2133 RAM

CoolerMaster CM Storm QuickFire Rapid w/MX Blue switches&Custom NVIDIA/QuakeCon keycaps

also it's all about the thermal paste application.

I put a whole disgusting lot (by that i mean lots of small drops bascially spread on the center, corners and all that.), then squish and rotate the cooler on it a lot so there's only the finest possible uniform layer with no spot without thermal paste. then i swipe off the excess on the sides taking good care not to put paste everywhere.

watch one video, overclocking is extremely easy if your careful (or just read this fourm ;) ) anyways if your adamant on not OCing skip the k series Find cheaper ram! that must be a pricing fluke 60 or 50 a piece is a little high too. looks good but i would invest in a 1070 i have one if you get a good deal that is i think you would be grateful that is until the next nvidia series comes out.

Hmmm then if I do decide to overclock, would the CPU cooler I have there be good enough? Or would I need a better one?

realistically no, but if your a little be worried about fan speed/noise i would look into something bigger like a dual tower or just something bigger all together. i have over clocked mine to 4.7 from stock 4 with boost my temps under load have only gone up my 10 degrees Celsius with water cooling 240mm rad. like these https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835103108

 https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835709011

https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA68V21E0632

unless you see it constantly running over 75 i wouldn't worry plus the 212 is so cheap anyway for the quality.

Wow, a fucking Coffee Lake i5 and a GTX 1080 in a $1200 budget with today's RAM prices is insane. No one is going to beat this build. Fuck overclocking, this system will mop the floor with any other system anyone has proposed here when it comes to gaming. And you're still getting a nice case too.
