LiteCoin Miner Plan

How is this for a LiteCoin miner?

CPU will stay as a 4670.

- So will this work? (In general)

- Is there enough cooling for the 7990's?

- Will the case have enough room?

- Do I need to add a floppy disc drive?

BTW, this is a quick put-together plan. I have not really gone through and checked links, etc.

Thanks :P

You don't need a floppy disk drive, why would you need one in the first place...?

Because Blu-Ray is gonna be phased out and the floppy disc will return to its former glory!

7990's for the most part are not good nor recommended for mining. You will likely need to watercool them. A majority of 7990's are also locked and have issues getting above 1200 K/hash. 2 7970's can get 730 K/hash each.

Miners are best built in crates for open air and easy cooling.

You don't need a floppy, or any disc drive.

You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.
Users cannot, and will not securely manage key material. Most users can't and the ones that can, wont.

I do plan on water cooling them, and that K/hash rate will be fine for me. I think.

By going with water cooling, and 7990's you will be spending an excessive amount might not see an ROI in terms of mining.

When you said crate I was thinking okay whatever but, it is a snazy fit.

If you want to build this then do it, but not for mining. What you listed isn't a mining rig, it's a dream rig with high end AMD cards that happen to perform well at mining. Absolutely nothing you listed is ideal for mining, stop fooling yourself about what this is for, or get a new plan.

Even then, it's not that high end, if it were to go for high end AMD gaming it would be using 4 290X's

Very true, if you're gonna blow $5000 you might as well do it right.

Well, what would be a good mining system then?

7970s? Water cooled?

7950 is the best card. Nearly impossible to get, 7970 was the next up. Also nearly impossible to get, after that is the 280X which is difficult to get but not impossible. You can even consider a 290, which is still not yet fully optimized for mining yet, but has a decent hashrate for the price. You can compare cards here https://litecoin.info/Mining_Hardware_Comparison

None of those need water cooling.

lol I got like the last 7950 at my local microcenter store.

Wanna hang out with me and people like @Theslsamg, @ Ssoele, @BENTHEREN, @Lanoi, @Whiskers, @_ASSASSIN_, @Looney, @WunderWuffle, and @nsyedhasan. Well.... Check out: http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/48484-unofficial-linustechtips-teamschnitzel-server-teamspeak/

I bought a 290 for $399 and its running at about 700Kh/s with cgminer.  I'm not pushing the card very much at all until I can get it integrated into my water loop.  I think its a card with great potential for the price.  I'm also hoping some optimizations for the new 200 series cards will come down the line in the future.  Its got one of the best hash rates already and will hopefully hold some value a bit further into the future. Just food for thought I guess!

I get ~400 Kh/sec with my two 680 FTW+ editions and it heats my house nicely :P

I am tempted to build an AMD mining box just for fun though. What would be the best bang for the buck mining box you could build if you literally didn't want to use the system for anything else but number crunching. I might also leverage the box as a 3D rendering farm :P

WOW ! My HD 6670 gets like 110 khash\sec !

Surprised to see that your two GTX 680 getting so low of a hash rate....

7950, best bang for the buck... although finding them is next to impossible at the moment.

Check this guide for building a dedicated miner

if all your going to do is mine with that rig. there is no need for that cpu and mobo.

like said 7990 is not worth it price/performance wise.

if you can find I'd go with 7970s or 280x  get 4, you still would save cash over two 7990s @ approx. 1000ea

if you can find 7950s at low price, snatch em....otherwise just go with the others.

get rid of the watercooling...you will save a lot lol. you wont need it if you can keep them adequately vented (ie not locked in a tiny room that gets hot)

no need for a case....use a crate or make a stand with square tubing and the corner joiner plugs...or leave it laying neatly.

with those cards you will be able to get 700-800+ per card (dialed in) much more effective then the 7990s would be at approx. 2400

you can go with a cheap mobo and cpu as its not important as much.

you will save a significant amount and still have a better performing rig....plus you will profit much faster

Old Rig | Cpu - Intel Q6600 @ 3.5Ghz | Cooler - Cooler Master Hyper 212+ | Mobo - Asus Rampage Extreme | Ram - 8GB OCZ Gold 1600mhz | Gpu - 2x Asus DK Radeon HD 4870 1GB (Crossfire) | Psu - Corsair TX750W | Case - Thermaltake Element G

New Rig | Cpu - Intel 4770K @ 4.5Ghz | Cooler - Swiftech H220 | Mobo - Asus Z87 Deluxe | Ram - 16GB Kinston Hyper X Beast @ 2400Mhz | Gpu - Sapphire R9 290X | Ssd - Kingston Hyper X Beast 3K 240GB | Psu - Corsair HX850W | Case - Fractal Design Define R4
