Hello there fellow gamers! Today I'm in need of your help :)

I'm a student in The Netherlands and I have recently thought about upgrading my old PC that I have at home in Germany, because I would like to bring it here on campus and game on it. The problem is, I only have a GTX 660 on it and I thought about upgrading to a 1060, but then again, I believe a 1070 would be a better choice, considering I want to use it for at least 3 more years and I need them juicy 100+ frames per second for my Asus MG248Q to chew.

However, I'm not sure I can upgrade to a 1070 on my current set-up, which I'll list below. And that's why I need your opinion / help.

Motherboard: ASRock B85 Pro 4

CPU: Intel i5-4570 3.2GHz

CPU Cooler: Arctic AC Freezer 7 Pro rev. 2

GPU: Gainward Geforce GTX 660 2GB DDR5 192-bit

Memory: HyperX Red 8GB DDR3 1600 MHz CL9 Dual Channel Kit XMP ready

HDD: Seagate Desktop 1TB 7200 RPM 64MB SATA-III

SSD: I don't have it installed, but it is a Kingston 120 GB

PSU: Seasonic S12II-520 Bronze (520W)

Case: Fractal Design Core 3000

DVD-Writer (back when I needed it): Samsunsg SH-224DB

I've already read that my 520W should do fine with my set-up, even if I replace the 660 with a 1070 or 1080, but I would like your opinion on whether that's for sure and whether connectivity (cables, pins) would be an issue for my build. If so, what's your suggestion?

Wait, let's make this easier:

TL;DR:

  • Will a normal 1070 or 1080 fit in my build ?
  • Will my PSU hold a 1070 or 1080, together with the other stuff I have ?
  • Do I need anything else (cables, slots, parts changed) ?
  • Personal opinion: new or used GPU? (budget: 400-450 EUR)

Looking forward to your answers and cheers in advance!

Thanks for the quick answer!

For 1., I do have the HDD cases still, but I can always get them out so that's good news.

For 3., do you mean if it shipped with it or if it has one? I have to admit, I am a total disaster when it comes to that :)

Just check around and if you find a connector with 8 pins in your powersupply box (or anywhere) than youre good (for the 1070 at least)
