Intel Processor Identification

iiNNeX

So I am going to be buying a 8700k here shortly and have found a delid service on Ebay with very positive reviews. It requires that i post the CPU over to the guy and he does the work within 1 working day and then posts it back with insured delivery. All good so far, however I can only see 1 flaw. Once I sent him my processor, he can test it on a test bench and if its a good chip, he can swap it for one of his own and glue my cap on it. So is there a way I can see the serial number or any kind of identification of my CPU before I send it off?

I am probably being far too paranoid but it is a £400 purchase so I want to be sure.

Cheers!

You can do it yourself and then there is nothing to worry about.

just use a marker and identify your cpu yourself before sending it out

ex. with a fine tip sharpie just write a letter or symbol or just a line....on the TIM as well as the green pcb around the edges

make clear instructions to him that you dont want to swap any cpus

if your cpu overclocks to 4.8

he could easily just fool you by giving you another cpu that  is inferior "your cpu hit a max 4.6ghz" and then he would keep the better cpu for himself

That might spit out a serial number or something. Otherwise physically marking it in a non-obvious way should also help. You can also do a soft check by making sure when you get the CPU back that it's at least the same model using CPU-z.

That wasn't my question was it?

If I was comfortable enough doing it myself I would of just done that :)

Yeah I am tempted to Sharpie on the lid and the green pcb, that way when I get it back I can wipe it off using alcohol wipes.

Yeah I found that website in my search earlier, I ll see if it spits something out. Apparently requires you to enable CPU identification in the BIOS first or something, I ll have a look. Cheers mate!
