I’m still kind of new to the whole pc building thing and I’m just wondering, is it possible that ram could be damaged from static electricity in its packaging? I know it sounds dumb but I just heard the other day that plastic conducts electricity apparently. I ordered the g skill 2x4gb 3200 ram sticks and obviously they were packaged in plastic. Just out of curiosity is it possible they could of been damaged through esd? And can esd only occcur when I’m directly touching the component or can it travel through other things, in this case plastic?

Pc parts are fairly hardy, but you can damage them. Was can go through basically anything. Including esd safe packaging. The packaging is mainly esd safe in regards to ensuring that it doesn't build up a charge from sitting around out being handled, rather than stopping someone from zapping it whose scuffing their feet along the carpet building up 100,000 volts
