Render Farms

Would it be possible to build a linux based render farm from old ps3. If so would it work as well as old laptops running linux.

In theory, I mean it could be done.

In practice, it'd be damn near pointless if you figured out how to make render farms out of old PS3s.

Wouldn't be much point if you could. The hardware in the PS3 is very inefficient compared to what today's hardware can offer, so for even the same price of buying a bunch of old PS3s (specifically ones that HAVEN'T been updated) you could just use current off the shelf parts and end up with something better and easier to make.

It was more about using what I already had. It was a way of making a low cost or free render farm for my daughter for her college work for use at home with the view to take with her.
