I have a MSI Z170 Gaming M5 motherboard running an i5 6600k. Would I be able to get the 7700k running on this motherboard by flashing a different BIOS and stick with the same mobo. Also would I lose any of my data if I flash.

Not all z170 mobos support kabylake. Look up online if yours does.

It would at least need a bios update to support the CPU microcode if it does.

yes you can flash latest official bios and put a 7700k in and it will work flawlessly. bios has nothing to do with your own personal data so you can't lose anything
