best used or new laptop under $300

looking for the best bang for your buck laptop i can get for under $300 for a friend. they had a budget for under $200 but i told them that youd probably get much more for around $300. any sugestions. can be refurbished

What's the usage for the laptop? I'd say refurbished ThinkPads are the way to go

In that case, then refurbished ThinkPads such as X230, X240, T430, T440, etc. would be suitable. Getting a new one at that price would be challenging and would not be worth it in my opinion due to the CPU it normally comes with.
