I built my first pc with an Xeon x5460 using the lga 771 to 775 mod and separately have an HP elite 8000 which was a PC previously used for school.
The CPU is becoming a bottleneck and considering getting a hp elite 8300 mt due to lack of used hardware in my area.

I have a few questions though and want to fill a couple gaps in my own knowledge to help make a choice.
Want would prevent me, from getting a hp elite 8200 and installing an i7 3770 considering or could I install a later generation CPU with the same socket such as an i7 4770 in a 8300/8200/8100 hp elite if they all have the same socket.
Although I only need this build to last me 3 years, when I will have finished uni and have been in a job for a year already, at that point, I will most likely build a new rig. I am still just curious about upgradeability.

Also, should I just buy an 8300 board and i7 3770 instead and install it on the 8000 PC that I have, assuming it saves me money over buying a cheap 8300 from my university?
