Graphics card upgrade for HP Pavilion p6-2114d ?

Hi! Good day everyone. I've been looking for suggestions and I've been researching for solutions for my PC Graphics Card upgrade. I want to understand and to make sure I am in a right direction, I have an HP Pavilion P6-2114d PC, it's probably an old PC but I would like to know if I could still upgrade the GPU (Currently AMD Radeon HD 7450) which is probably not a gaming Graphics card. I've asked experts from HP and Nvidia community and customer supports and they showed me possible options or products if I wish to upgrade my GPU. HP experts says, GTX 660/670 series and earlier since the Joshua-H61-uATX motherboard does not support UEFI. The Nvidia customer support answered me that NVIDIA GPUs will work with both UEFI and legacy BIOS. So it should work with this PC.

I would like to know what's the best option, buying expensive GPU's or not? and would it be possible for these higher cards to be installed in my PC? I haven't researched all the possible GPU's in the market for hardware requirements.

These are the specs of my motherboard:

 

- Joshua-H61-uATX

- LGA 1155

Expansion Slots:
  • 1 PCI Express x16 (Gen2.0)
  • 3 PCI Express x1 (Gen2.0)
  • 1 PCI Express Mini Card x1

- I have 2GB of RAM

- Radeon HD 7450 Graphics Card & 1GB onboard Memory

I'm not sure if the PCIe slot can give 75W, so that's another question for the customer support. If it doesnt then the best you can get is a GT 1030. Might as well upgrade RAM size to 8GB total.

There is a high probability HP has locked down which GPUs you can use, so called whitelisting. Also, you'll need to upgrade to at least 8GB of RAM if you want to leverage a fast GPU in any modern game.

The only safe bet is seeing which cards HP offered, which is sadly just the 7450 it seems. You'll have to take the gamble and try, I'm afraid. Make sure your PSU is up to taking a GPU like the 660 though. It needs external power.

Seems to only apply to HP Elitebooks atm

Yes, but this is an H61 system from 2012. They absolutely did whitelisting on their consumer desktops back then. If this board is identical to the one found in the HP Pro 3400 and 3500 systems, you're safe.

In the end, it might be worth it to try and borrow a friend's card or whatever so you know if it's picky or not.
