Okay. I have an Asus ROG Strix B350-F Gaming mother board. My CPU is a Ryzen 5 1500x.  I have two 4gb sticks of DDR4 Corsair Vengeance LPX ram (came together in a kit for a total of 8gb) at 3000Mhz ((CMK8GX4M2B3000C15)). My question is will the RAM work with the motherboard and the CPU if I put them in DIMM slots A2 and B2 like the manual suggests?  ***The photo is from the memory section of the manual***

Yes, it will work fine. The QVL for the board specifically has those exact modules listed in it's compatibility section, and also says they will work if you upgrade to 16GB in future with the same sticks.

I recommend when you put it together that you update to the latest uefi (bios) before you try changing from SPD2133 speeds to XMP 3000 speeds in the bios, as you're likely to get increased stability that way.

Would that be by serial number, MHz, or gb?

So if I put them in A2 and B2 like the manual suggests they should work, right?

Yes, they will work in that default configuration.

If you later choose to buy another 8GB (2x4 modules), fill the other slots and it'll still work. The QVL lists support for running 4 of those sticks no problem.

So if only one stick works in the B2 slot (the only stick in) do I have bad ram? ((One stick works alone in that slot and the other doesn’t)). And what about the DDR4-2666 one DIMM per channel only?

Possibly. If the bios has been updated fully, and 1 module works in there but the other module doesn't, then it definitely sounds like a bad module. I'd recommend an RMA.

Edit: Just to clarify, you should need to put the modules in slot A2, not B2, in order to check them by themselves. The board is unlikely to boot if you put a module only in B2. (per the motherboard manual)

I am currently running BIOS 0902 x64. (Just got the board). What’s a RMA?

Latest bios is a lot newer, released only last week. Get that one - version 3203 from https://www.asus.com/uk/Motherboards/ROG-STRIX-B350-F-GAMING/HelpDesk_BIOS/

RMA is "Return Materials/Merchandise Authorisation", it basically means returning the sticks if they *are* faulty. But you should update the bios to latest version first - Ryzen is a new platform and a LOT of memory compatibility issues have been fixed in the last few months.

Off mem?  Can I do that with ez flash 3 through internet?

You can, but only if you are connected to the internet via Ethernet, it won't work if you're using a usb or add-in wifi card.

After you select the utility, use DHCP as the connection method and it should just work.

So with one stick in the A2 slot got to ez flash 3. And update using internet (I’m at connected with ethernet) select “via internet” and hit next?

Then you'll need to download the bios update, put it on a usb stick and use the same utility, but select "via atorage device" instead.

Can I download it onto a hard drive or SSD

it didn’t give me the option to select “DHCP”

I'm not sure, sorry.

I have a gigabyte board and it won't read a bios update from any of my internal or external drives as they are all formatted as NTFS. I don't know if Asus boards have the same limitation.

I'm following the instructions given at https://www.asus.com/uk/support/FAQ/1012815/, perhaps the interface has been updated since this guide was made. it should be similar, though.

Edit: I just checked that guide, and unless you specifically have a FAT formatted external drive it wont work unless you get it done over the internet.

Will any flash drive work formatted for fat32

Yes. Format it as fat32, and just download and place the bios file directly on the root of the disk. Make sure to extract it from the .zip file.

Can I copy paste. How do I place in the root?  What about Utility?  Will that come with the bios update?

Yeah, copy it from inside the zip file and just paste it straight onto the drive, don't put it inside any folders or anything (that's what's meant by the root of the drive, the first thing you see when you open the disk in windows).

The utility the guide I linked mentions is the EZ Flash 3 tool that you took a picture of before - you don't need to use anything else.

After you format the disk, copy the bios file onto it, and reboot, select EZ Flash 3, select to install from storage device, and you should see the .CAP file on the disk. Select it and follow the instructions.

Do *not* turn off the power to the machine while it is updating, even if it looks like it's frozen or stopped. Doing so could cause damage to your board and make it unbootable. After it gets going, just be patient, and it'll be done in time.

So with updated bios I still don’t boot with both sticks A2 and B2 does this mean I have bad ram?

Try one stick at a time; if one boots and the other doesn't, you have one bad stick of ram and need to initiate procedures to get that stick replaced.

I believe I have one bad stick. I am reinstalling windows 10 64bit. Should I delete all drives exccept primary drives?

Also. Should I update to the newest driver for my GPU
