Upgrade Dilemma

Hey All

 

I currently game on a 1080p 144hz monitor. 

My specs are: i5 4460, B85M Motherboard, GTX 1070 , EVGA 750W PSU

 

I believe that my CPU is bottlenecking my GPU at this refresh rate and want to upgrade it.

 

I am not sure if it is worth buying a used i7 4790k and Z97 (then in about 3-4 years building a complete new system) or spending more on a i5 8600k , Z370 and new DDR4 RAM. 

 

Do you think the i7 4790k would be much of an upgrade from the 4460 and how much difference is there between the 4790k and the 8600k in terms of gaming performance?

See what the CPU usage is during a game and if its pinned at 100% then its the bottleneck.

I can confirm a 4460 bottlenecks anything faster than a 1050Ti. A 4790K, despite not overclockable on your board, will negate that with its 4GHz clock speed and hyperthreading. If you can find one for around the 220 mark, go for it.
