Hey so I have a ASUS P8H61-M LE/CSM and currently no cpu for it. When I plug the psu in and put in ram as well as a cpu fan and try to turn it on it turns on for a split second then turns right back off. There is a green light that is always on on the mobo when plugged in and that is on. Does it need a cpu to be able to stay on?

It needs a CPU to do everything. Only a few top-end boards can let you use the BIOS without the CPU (to update it), but that's it.

well theoretically the fans and other simple devices could be run but if the mobo doesnt detect any CPU it will just shut down again

So you dont think that I have a dead board from the symptoms it has? It will be a couple days before I get the cpu and I am worried it might go outside the return period. Thanks for the help.

But what I am worried about is that it wont keep the fans on after startup. I know it will never boot into bios without the cpu.

Well, you can't say it's broken if you can't test it... Just wait for the CPU.

Just wait for the cpu. Most likely everything will be fine. It cannot post without a cpu.
