It will work if you do the 775 to 771 mod.

thnx for the reply, the cpu is modded already it dont need the modd, my question is, will it post..

If the mod is done properly and you have updated bios on it then it should (as long as that motherboard is the right one for that mod)

The motherboard will probably work with it, but if I recall correctly you need to mod the motherboard as well for the xeon to fit in.

If you are that concerned about loosing few bucks, just but Q6600 and call it a day.

That is an interesting way to do the mod. Most times I've seen they said to cut away the plastic notches in the socket, rather than cutting them into the CPU, but I guess that can work too. Also CPU needs a small sticker that swaps around positions of two contacts on the bottom.

Out of interest, how much is for that particular xeon?

am in europe so they ask me 30 euro, i belive its around 26 -28 dollars if not mistaken. i did order it before some minutes and they did say on the back of cpu its already install the sticker on the pins. olso intresting to see the perfomance but dunno if what i see its true...

Well the performance difference comes from higher frequency on xeon, but that can be reduced by overclocking. On the other hand, maybe you could push the xeon even higher.

Also keep your e6600 on hand. If xeon doesn't work immediately, try updating the bios.
