Haswell-E to Broadwell-E

Go to solution Solved by Lurick,

If you have your BIOS updated, then yah, you can just drop the Broadwell-E CPU in.

I was under the assumption that Broadwell-E CPU's were a different socket to Haswell-E. They are not, both support 2011v3 sockets.

I have an ASUS X99-a (bog standard thing) motherboard.

So here's my question;

I'm currently running my 5820k on a 280mm CLC at a moderate temp of around a constant 50 Celsius under load at 4.6GHz. I don't want to go much higher than that because, frankly, the voltage it'll need to be at will make my backside begin to itch. Is it 'doable' to just to a straight swap to Broadwell-E if my Haswell-E CPU dies of death?

I'm really happy with the performance I'm getting from it so I'm not considering an upgrade yet, but I'm not made of money so the idea of upgrading and/or replacing at this time of year/early next year depending on what's on offer gives me a hernia. I just like to keep my options open and fancied a bit of clarification on this is all!
