2500k overclock help

Hey im planning on overclocking my i5 2500k today as im fairly bored lol

 

i have a cooler master hyper 212 evo cpu cooler what sort of speeds do you think i should try to put it up to?

 

also whats the best way of finding out how much the overclock has helped?

A 212 could safely run 4.2-4.4 with adequate case ventilation and ambient temperature or more if you're brave, also any overclock will improve performance but if you really want to know there are benchmarks that you can use.

its a sandy bridge so you should get 4.6-4.8ghz to keep up with haswell and ivybridge chips. safe 24/7 voltage is 1.38v.

CM-212-evo can get you 4.7ghz easily enough . intel has stated 1.52v as safe - I wouldn't go over 1.45 v or 90*C which ever goes first. 

most people will say 1.38v but tbh if temps are low enough thats all hogwash imho. ive ran a 2500k @ 4.7 since they released without a bit of degradation @ 1.415v. 

 

remember evey chip is different some will do 4.5 some will do 5.0 ghz it all depends on when you hit that wall. if the scaling goes wonky and starts demanding Crazy volts for 100mhz more just stop its never worth it.

Yes 1.52v is fine for benchmarking i would probably go to 1.55v. Under 1.4+v 24/7 is ok. I said 1.38 cos i'm on the stock cooler still, so that is my thermal limit.

1.52 is your absolute max for ambient overclocking that includes watercooling imho.
