I have a spare Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition CPU that I would like to re-use in a small form factor media and emulation PC that will be connected to a TV.

My goal is to run CEMU upscaled to 4K. If that runs, every other emulator will as well.

I also have a spare HD7770 OC that I will use for this build. More than enough for media and since emulation is more dependant on CPU, should be fine for emulation as well.

Now my question is, how well does the Phenom II X4 965 perform in emulation, specifically for CemU?
Obviously, intel will do better due to better single core performance, but since I already have the X4 965, I'd like to re-use it. The motherboard for it died, so I'd have to get a new one and before I do, I'd like to be sure if the CPU will suit my needs.

The Pentium G4560 would also be a decent and cheap choice, but it is not overclockable. The older G3258 which is overclockable is also more expensive than the newer model and I believe even when overclocked the performance gain would be minimal and not worth it.

CEMU requires a hefty cpu (high core clock) as Cemu hates my 6700hq horribly. I recommend an Intel cpu (5 years & up) with 4 cores and a clock speed of around 3.7GHz and up for smooth gameplay

That rig might be fine for 30fps and under

The X4 965 can do 4ghz no problem, if that is what Cemu needs.

I also remember running Cemu on my Lenovo Y700 while I still had it. Only tried Mario Kart 8 and it worked "decent".
