So, my previous post I asked about two intel cpus, this post I will talk about the never ending debating. AMD vs Intel. So, I am thinking about getting a new cpu as stated in the last post. This time, i am wondering if i should get a Ryzen 7 CPU instead of a intel core i7700k. So what are the benefits of Ryzen? I heard that Ryzen cpus are really good multi-core CPUS but single core intel is better. Would a Ryzen 7 cpu be good for video editing, gaming, and streaming? Or should I go with the intel core i7 7700k. I know the 7700k can be overclocked which I think will be helpful for the future but can the Ryzen. Also, I heard I need to get another motherboard if I get the i7700k.

The ryzen by far. Video editing and streaming will benefit immensely from the Ryzen 7's increased multicore performance. It can also overclock well, even on the stock cooler (one of which is not included with the 7700k, which makes the Ryzen 7 good value).

As for the motherboard, AMD will have all their CPUs until at least 2020 supporting AM4, so choosing Ryzen now will save you heaps on upgrades in the future.

So we just learned that intel added a new manufactuere in China to produce 8400, i5 8600k, i7 8700 and 8700k CPUs, so getting a 8700k is going to be easier, If you want to go super high end go 8700k or 8600k they can both be overclocked very well and both have 6 cores. Ryzen is a very competitive option. really it is up to you. If it were me I would go for the intel just because of years of consistency and supreme overclocking potential, but I may be more of an overclocker than you.

Short answer what Droidbot said I guess

If you are primary a gamer Intel 7700k/8700k would be a great experience. 8600k would also be acceptable

If you are primary a streamer/editor you would benefit much more from the additional cores/threads of a Ryzen 1700x/1800x.

You gotta figure out what your daily life on a computer is mostly like to figure what would be best for you. There isn't a one processor fits all unfortunately. Intel is the best when it comes to gaming because games are optimized for Intel and they tend to have higher core speeds. If you do a lot of editing/streaming the additional cores/threads on a 1700x/1800x would help out a lot more than the higher core speeds on intel.

My advice if you are okay with losing a few FPS in gaming and want a better experience in editing/streaming go with a Ryzen 1700x BUT! if you can afford a 1800x you might as well buy a Threadripper 1900x because at least in the future you can upgrade to a 1950x or even a 2nd gen threadripper for a better upgrade path potential in the future.
